CrossFit Terrell On-Ramp Program

Welcome to the family!

The purpose of the On-Ramp Program is to focus on skill development and exposure to our basic movements, it does not by any means cover every exercise we will use in the gym. It is designed to prepare you to enter our group classes safely and efficiently. We are going to be hammering technique to ensure safety and success in reaching your goals.

  •  What you can expect:

  •  We will introduce you to technique and mechanics first, then talk about CrossFit Methodology & more.

  •  There will be a workout at the end of each day, which will get progressively more challenging as the course progresses.

  •  The difficulty of these workouts is ultimately in your hands, however we want you to ease into the intensity.

  •  Most importantly to learn to HAVE FUN!

  •  What we ask of You:

  •  Check our website, and Facebook daily for updates and information.

  •  Communicate with us about injuries, minor tweaks & twinges, your progress, concerns, the bad and good!

  •  Listen and ask questions.

  •  Take your mobility seriously-check out www.mobilitywod.com for more info.

  •  Check in on Wodtogether, and record times and weights to keep track of progress!

  •  Notice the small changes as well as the big!! Shifts in body composition are one of the most motivating ways to measure success, but not the only.

  •  Please be courteous of the gym equipment, others around you, and please put your stuff away.

  •  Be patient and realistic…..with yourself and manage expectations.

  •  Count and write scores on the whiteboard.

  •  Most of all HAVE FUN!

Managing expectations of progress:
1. Be realistic in your goals and your expectations of yourself and your trainers. To expect that you can just undo all the “bad” things ini just 2-3 months what you have done to your body over many years is not only unrealistic and unfair to you, but possibly unsafe. Slow down and enjoy the process. 90% of the battle is just showing up!

2. Nutrition is VERY important.  Understand that it is physiologically impossible to train away bad nutrition- it will eventually catch up to you. Find what works best for your health and performance.

3. Don’t quit!  Just show up!  Understand that while anyone can start CrossFit, it is physically hard and can be quite difficult to master, but know the rewards are worth it!  It is not 90 days in length like some other programs just one short week.  It is, as we claim, a lifestyle. So, welcome to CrossFit!

Frequently Asked Questions:
Is there any additional fees for taking the ON-Ramp Class?

Yes, CrossFit Terrell's ON-Ramp classes are for those who would like to have a formal introduction into movement and CrossFit. This course is one full week or 5 classes that are detailed instruction on fundamental aspects of required movements.

WHY IS ON-RAMP NECESSARY? CAN’T I JUST START TAKING CLASSES?

One of the reasons why CrossFit is unique from other training methodologies is because we employ functional movements – multi-joint movements that closely replicate those found in sports or life, and which strengthen and engage an entire kinetic chain instead of an individual muscle or muscle group. Because these movements can be complex, and are often unfamiliar to those new to the sport, they often require a fair amount of instruction before they can be employed safely and effectively. Our On-Ramp not only affords this instruction, but also the opportunity for people to apply what they learn.

WHAT IF I MISS AN ON-RAMP CLASS?

Chances are good that if you miss a class, we’ll still be able to coach you through your Proficiency Assessment so that you can begin enrolling in CrossFit Terrell's Group Training Classes as planned. That said, athletes will still be responsible for the material covered, and are strongly encouraged to make up the class by either:

1.)  Attending the class you missed the next time it is offered at no charge;

2.)  Talk with a CrossFit Terrell Coach about additonal options to make up the class. We have open gym times on most Saturdays and occasionaly have other times available during the week.

I’M MORE COMFORTABLE LEARNING NEW MOVES ON MY OWN. CAN I DO A PRIVATE ON-RAMP?

Absolutey! While group classes are the prefered method, CrossFit Terrell does offer a 1-on-1 On-Ramp Program that follows the same curriculum as our Group On-Ramp Training in a highly personalized setting, and can be scheduled at the Client’s convenience. There is however an additional charge for private coaching. Talk with a CrossFit Terrel Coach about pricing and scheduling.

THE 7PM ON-RAMP DOES NOT FIT MY SCHEDULE.  ARE THERE ANY OTHER CLASS TIMES AVAILABLE?

We sometimes have a morning On-Ramp class available whenever there is a demand for one. Give us a call so we can talk about what works best for you. We're always happy to do whatever we can

WHAT IF I’M NOT READY TO GRADUATE?

CrossFit Terrell is committed to a non-intimidating training environment. We want all of our members feeling both comfortable within a Group Training environment and confident with their newfound skills before they make the transition to Group Training Classes. If you still don’t feel as though you’re ready to transition to our Group Training Classes after completing your On-Ramp, we’re here to help. Speak to your coach about your options for re-enrolling in another round of On-Ramp, or enrolling in a 1-on-1 On-Ramp program.

IS THE ON-RAMP PROGRAM MANDITORY?

No, CrossFit Terrell recomends new members to have successfully completed one of the following pre-requisites prior to being able to participate in any regularly scheduled CrossFit Terrell Group Training but is not mandatory.
